LEAF project weekly update
LEAF project weekly update, 16th February
Fancy a trip to Ecobuild in London? And a thermal imaging photo of your home?
Want practical advice on energy efficiency measures for your house? Or for the more adventurous learn the latest trends in sustainable design and self-build? CFB will pay the train fare (cheap / off peak rate) for up to three people (first come, first served) to attend this year’s Ecobuild event in London on 20th March. Contact us at CFBLEAF@gmx.co.uk.
Volunteers must have an interest in green building issues and be willing to set aside some time to share their learning with the group in the future. Described as the world's biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, ecobuild is free to attend. For more details about this exciting event, please visit http://www.ecobuild.co.uk/index.html.
Thermal imaging: we are moving into the next stage of the Leaf project, where we’re piloting the study of thermal imaging (TI) and photographing up to 1000 different types of properties throughout the community area. We would love to hear from individuals who would like to include their neighbourhood and who would be prepared to host a meeting with neighbours to discuss what the images might reveal about heat loss in their properties. Neighbourhoods will be leafleted before any TI takes place (so keep your eyes peeled for the flyers), giving people the opportunity to find out more. Typically, only 20 to 50 properties will be leafleted within one street or neighbourhood, depending on the area.
If you are interested, please contact us on CFBLEAF@gmx.co.uk and let us have your house number and postcode, plus phone number so we can get in touch with you. At this stage, we’d prefer to concentrate on houses that can be easily photographed from the street. If your house is more secluded, we will put you on a list for next winter.
LEAF project weekly update, 7th February
CFB’s energy efficiency project funded under the DECC Leaf fund is under way. We are now drawing up our programme of free energy assessments of 20 houses. These will be representative of different housing types across the Bradford community area, with the requirement that some neighbours with similar houses are also involved so that information can be shared. If you live in Holt, Monkton Farleigh, Limpley Stoke, South Wraxall, Staverton, Westwood, Wingfield or Winsley, and would like a free energy assessment please contact us on CFBLEAF@gmx.co.uk giving the age of your property, and saying where you have problems with heat loss or which parts of your house are cold. We would particularly like to hear from people with houses built between 1945 and 1985 in these villages or in Bradford itself.
Our technical expert has looked at the two community buildings and is providing a detailed proposal of work. The majority of work will be carried out in the Friends Meeting House, and the Guides HQ will have an energy assessment and plan for later action.
Work has started on CFB’s approach to drawing up a list of good local energy efficiency installers, and on evaluating what has been achieved with our previous projects such as the energy efficiency measures carried out in community buildings under Green Streets.
